About CleanPlate
Transparent food safety, made simple.
Health inspection records are public — but they’re scattered across dozens of government systems, each with its own format, grading scheme, and quirks. CleanPlate brings them into one honest, searchable place so anyone can check a restaurant’s official record before they order or sit down.
How it works
Health inspection records are public, but they live in dozens of separate government systems, each with its own format and grading scheme. CleanPlate gathers them, standardizes the grades into one comparable scale, and puts them in a single fast, searchable place — so checking a restaurant takes seconds instead of hunting through a government portal. Today 26 cities are live, with more added regularly.
Our principles
- Official sources only. Grades come from health departments, never from reviews or crowd-sourced opinion.
- No invented grades. When a city doesn’t issue a letter grade, we say so and clearly label any status we derive.
- Show our work. Data is displayed unmodified, with the source named and a live status page for every feed.
