Where our grades come from

One honest scale

Different places grade differently — some use letters, some numeric scores, some a simple pass or fail. CleanPlate translates them into a single, comparable scale while preserving the original record. When a source doesn’t issue a grade, we say so and clearly label anything we derive — we never present an invented letter.

Dated, and never altered

Inspection results are shown unmodified, each with the date it was recorded. Every restaurant page names the official authority the record came from, so you can always trace a grade back to its source.

Not a government service

CleanPlate is an independent, privately operated website and app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representing any government agency or health department. The official record always lives with the agencies listed below.
